Pre-Treatment Guidelines & Contraindications

Lip Blushing Preparation

Weeks Before:

• Use a nourishing lip balm or treatment daily to maintain lip health

• Gently exfoliate lips 1-2 times per week with a soft scrub  Stay well-hydrated to keep lips plump and healthy

• History of cold sores requires 4-day antiviral medication treatment prior to procedure

Day of Procedure:

• Bring lipstick colors or photos showing your desired lip shade and intensity

• Have reference images of lip shapes and styles you like

• Come with clean, product-free lips

Lip Blushing Contraindications:

• Blood thinning medications  (stop for

• Active cold sore outbreak

• Recent lip fillers (wait 4-6 weeks)

• Pregnancy or breastfeeding

• Autoimmune disorders

• Severe allergies or sensitivities

• Keloid scarring tendency

Both procedures require avoiding alcohol and excessive caffeine 24-48 hours before treatment, as these can increase bleeding and sensitivity.

🦠 IMPORTANT: Cold Sore History

If you have EVER had a cold sore:

  • You MUST pre-treat with antiviral medication 3-5 days before your appointment

  • Consult your doctor or pharmacist for appropriate medication (Valtrex, Acyclovir, etc.)

  • Continue medication for 3-5 days after treatment as directed

Why This Matters: Lip Blushing involves trauma to the lip tissue, which can trigger the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) to reactivate. Even if you haven't had a cold sore in years, the stress of the procedure can cause an outbreak. Pre-treatment with antiviral medication significantly reduces this risk and protects your new lip blushing results.

Without proper pre-treatment, a cold sore outbreak can:

  • Damage your fresh lip blushing

  • Cause uneven healing and color loss

  • Require additional touch-up sessions
